Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones Back Together? Couple 'Hammering Out Issues'

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are reportedly back together following their "temporary" separation, sources claim.

The Hollywood power couple, who wed in 2000 in a lavish ceremony in New York City, reportedly took time out from their 13-year marriage in May however Douglas, 68, insisted their separation was not permanent. Zeta-Jones, 43, who shares two children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, with Douglas, is now said to be working things out with the actor.

"Michael's asked Catherine to give things another try and she's agreed. It's not just for the sake of the children," a source told The Sun UK adding "When they're good they're amazing together, so they're hammering out their issues at their home."

Zeta-Jones was photographed wearing her wedding ring at the NYC Dance Alliance in recent days, fueling reconciliation reports. Douglas reportedly moved back into the couple's multi-million dollar apartment in Bedford, New York.

"I'm very hopeful that we're going to work things out," Douglas said about Zeta-Jones at the Emmys. "We talk. I think everything will be great."

In September the "Behind the Candelabra" actor denied reports of a divorce while promoting his new Liberace biopic in Berlin, Germany.

"I have a crisis at home? No, I think the press has a crisis. We, we are fine. My wife and I are, are fine. We take a temporary separation, but the press, it gives you stuff to write about," Douglas said.

In recent years Douglas and Zeta-Jones have faced a series of challenges particularly the actress' recurring struggles with bipolar II disorder and the actor's 2010 battle with Cancer.

"Our sources tell us there were several factors," Peter Castro, deputy editor for People, told ABC News regarding the reason behind the couple's temporary separation.

"It's undeniable that his throat cancer and her bi-polar disorder created a perfect storm of tension and issues that were really hard to overcome," he added.

Critics suspect that Douglas' controversial comments about the cause of his throat cancer may have added strain to the couple's marriage. In a June interview with The Guardian newspaper the actor blamed the disease on Human papillomavirus (HPV) which he allegedly contracted during oral sex.

"...Without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus," Douglas said in the interview.
