Michael Phelps to Marry Baby's Mama This Year After Wrapping Rio 2016 Stint With 23rd Olympic Gold Medal: Nicole Johnson Shares Wedding Details

American swimmer Michael Phelps has cemented his legendary status by winning additional five gold medals during his fifth and final Olympic appearance at Rio 2016. The 31-year-old most decorated Olympian of all time now has a total of 28 medals, in which 23 of them are gold.

Phelps is yet to announce his career plans after retiring from the Olympics. But one thing is for sure – the legendary swimmer and his longtime fiancée, Nicole Johnson, are getting hitched soon.

Johnson, the mother of Phelps' 3-month-old baby Boomer Robert, shared to Access Hollywood some details of their upcoming wedding. Although she did not specify the date, she said that they already picked a date for the special day within this year.

The 31-year-old former Miss California contestant revealed that her wedding with the legendary swimmer will be small and intimate. She added that after the private ceremony, they will be throwing a massive wedding party for everyone.

Johnson disclosed that she and Phelps have been planning the wedding for quite some time now. She said that everything about the wedding ceremony is already in order and she is now on the verge of finalizing the fun wedding party.

Phelps & Johnson's Enduring Relationship

Per US Magazine, Phelps and Johnson have a rocky relationship for eight years. The pair were dating on-and-off starting 2007.They broke up in late 2011 and got back together in 2014.

On February 2015, the couple both confirmed that they are officially engaged. Their son, baby Boomer, was born in May this year.

Phelps' mother, Deborah, said that she always knew Johnson was the right woman for her son. She shared that Phelps underwent several phases in his life to figure out himself and mature as a person.

Deborah disclosed that she fully supported her son after he confined to her that he will be getting back with Johnson. "I said, and that's what I want you to do,'" she narrated.

Phelps has been vocal in his past interviews that the Rio 2016 Olympics will be his final stint as an Olympian. As the flag bearer of Team USA, he did not disappoint in his last competitive swim.

He won four gold medals for the 200-meter butterfly and 200-meter individual medley, as well as in both the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays. He also earned a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly individual race.

Moreover, on Saturday night, Phelps competed in the 4x100m medley relay together with teammates Nathan Adrian, Cody Miller and Ryan Murphy. According to New York Times, the American team won the race with a record of 3 minutes 27.95 seconds, giving Phelps his 23rd gold Olympic medal.
