Michael Schumacher Health Condition Latest News 2015: F1 Legend 'Still Fighting' After Accident

Michael Schumacher is arguably the most recognizable name in Formula 1 and deserves a place among the best in racing's history. It's just too unfortunate to face the fact that he may no longer be able to come back normal from the freak accident while skiing, causing him to suffer tragic brain injuries.

The seven-time Formula One World Champion suffered the head injury while skiing in December 2013, after which he was placed in a medically induced coma. The F1 great was in a state of coma for six months, only being able to return home for further evaluation more than a year later.

According to FIA president Jean Todt, Schumacher is "still fighting" two years after the accident in the French Alps.

Todt is a close friend, having served as the Ferrari F1 team boss during those years when the German racing ace ruled the racetracks. The two eventually became close friends even after Schumacher's retirement, especially now that Todt keeps constant communication with his former driver, who currently is with his family for continuous rehabilitation.

Todt also said that Schumacher's achievements and feats in Formula 1, including winning five straight championships from 2000 to 2005, shouldn't be forgotten, especially right now when a new breed of drivers, mostly young ones, are dominating the racetrack.

Schumacher is a surefire Hall-of-Famer, owning several Formula One driver records that include a number of race victories, most championships, pole positions, fastest laps, and the one with the most races won in just a single season. He made this feat in 2004 when he won 13. Also, he is the only driver in the history of F1 to manage to finish in the top 3 for every race in a season.

Before becoming the most successful driver in Formula One, Schumacher started his racing career in karting, and then followed it up by winning the German drivers' titles in Formula Konig and Formula Three. His first stint in Formula One was in 1991 for the Benetton team.
