Michael Schumacher Recovery Remains Uncertain as Medical Costs Skyrocket

Formula One champ, Michael Schumacher's full recovery from his ski accident 14 months ago remain doubtful, meanwhile his medical expenses have continued to rise.

Formula One icon Michael Schumacher's recuperation from a brain injury following his horrendous ski accident in the French Alps last December 2013 is still uncertain. In the meantime, his medical costs have been reached the 10 million pound mark this year, U.K. Express reported.

The German racecar driver's progress has been described as "painfully slow," and while the Schumacher family has declared a news blackout on his condition, reports are circulating that he remains unable to walk or even talk, and his awareness of his surroundings appear limited.

After his release from the University Hospital Center of Grenoble in September 2014, Schumacher has been receiving constant and intensive medical attention at his Swiss mansion beside Lake Geneva, and a 15-member medical team headed by Professor Jean-Francois Payen, who performed the surgical procedure to remove blood clots from his brain after the Meribel accident, is on standby to administer 24-hour round-the-clock care.

The seven-time Formula One champion's family, particularly wife Corinna, and children Gina-Maria, 17, and Mick, 15 remain in constant contact with him.

According to spinal surgeon and neurological expert, Peter Hamlyn, progress remains slow and uncertain, and while the F1 legend can now sit by himself in a wheelchair and recognize family members, his nine-month medically induced coma following the skiing accident has left him facing a long, difficult road to an extremely slow recovery.

At the moment, the most successful Formula One driver in history is suffering from memory loss, can only communicate using eye movements, and his currently going through physical therapy to help contain muscle atrophy.

Reports have emerged that Schumacher recently shed tears upon hearing the voices of his wife and children.
