Michael Schumacher Condition Latest Update: Wife Corinna Reports Slow But Steady Recovery

Michael Schumacher came out of his coma in June, although experts feared that Schumacher might be reduced to a permanent vegetative state after being in a coma for so long. His wufe Corinna remains optimistic, and she said that her racecar champion husband was recovering.

"It's getting better, slowly certainly, but in any case it's improving," said Corinna.

Upon awakening from his coma, Schumacher has been moved to the Lausanne rehabilitation clinic where he remains immobile and unable to speak. A few sources close to his family told Express.co.uk that he addresses people with occasional flickerings of his eyes.

Through it all, Corinna has faithfully remained by his side, never once giving up hope that her husband will make a full recovery. A family friend told the website that Corinna likened giving up as a "betrayal" to her husband.

"Our Michael is a fighter and he will never give up," said Corinna.

Michael Schumacher's wife Corinna made an unexpected appearance at the World Equestrian Games in France. She was seen smiling as she attended the games, of which she was named official Ambassador last month. It has been months since she has been seen in public functions, as she has spent the last eight months by her husband's side after a skiing accident left him in a coma.

Schumacher suffered grave head injuries during a ski accident on Dec. 29 last year when he collided with some rocks in the French Alps at Meribel. He was airlifted via a helicopter and taken to the University Hospital in Grenoble. The seven-time Formula One champion underwent two back to back operations, and he was not expected to last the night.

Thankfully, he survived, but was placed on a medically induced coma in January to decrease the swelling around his brain.
