The previous season, the teen placed second in the world at the 2014 European and German karting championships, prompting an offer from the Netherlands-based Van Amersfoort racing team.

The young Schumacher embarked on his carting career at the age of eight, rising through the ranks until qualifying for the German Formula 4, a category considered a stepping stone for junior drivers to qualify for Formula One.

He has been following the same path his father took at the beginning of his career, progressing from kart races to Formula Four. He has also been vocal about his goal of matching the elder Schumacher's success at Formula One.

Meanwhile, his father is currently paralyzed and in wheelchair-bound recovery at his home in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, following his December 2013 ski crash in the French Alps where the Formula One champion suffered critical head injuries.

Schumacher has not made a public appearance since his accident, having recently emerged from a six-month medically induced coma. According to press reports, Mr. Schumacher still cannot speak and is suffering from memory issues.
