Michael W. Smith Kicks Off "The Celebration Tour" with MercyMe

Michael W. Smith celebrates his 20th Anniversary in Christian music as he along with special guest MercyMe as they kicked off “The Celebration Tour” in Milwaukee, WI, on October 16 at the U.S. Cellular Arena.

The combination of Michael W. Smith and MercyMe delivered an evening of music and ministry where Michael “inspired, moved, and shared with the audience in a way only he can do,” according to Cliff Reiser of Rush Concerts, who promoted the event. “Michael has been a mainstay in Christian music for 20 years and The Celebration Tour clearly shows why. Rush Concerts is proud to have played a small role in this success.”

John Huie of Creative Artists Agency comments how “wonderful” it is that they are selling out venues and calls Michael with Mercy Me, “the package of the year.”

MercyMe frontman Bart Millard commented, "To tour with Michael W. Smith is a dream-come-true! All of us in MercyMe are life-long fans of his music and, more importantly, his ministry. We are honored for the opportunity to join him in advancing the Kingdom of God."

Apart from the concert’s successful reception, Amy Grant, known for getting Michael started as her piano player, joined Michael on stage as a “surprise guest” and is expected to appear at selected dates on the Celebration Tour.

Michael W. Smith will tour until the beginning of November, playing songs from the last two decades his career and from his 17th audio recording, The Second Decade 1993-2003, which was recently released on Oct. 7 and claimed the #1 position on Nielsen SoundScan’s Christian and Christian/Mainstream Combined music sales charts.
