Michele Bachmann Believes 'God's Miracle' Will Repeal Obamacare

May 22, 2013|5:03 pm

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said in a recent interview that she maintains hope that President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act, also known as "Obamacare," will be repealed before 2016, saying she believes God will ultimately perform a miracle.

"I think the president will ultimately be forced to repudiate his own signature piece of legislation because the American people will demand it," Bachmann told radio host Dr. James Dobson on his "Family Talk" radio program Tuesday.

"And I think before his second term is over, we're going to see a miracle before our eyes, I believe God is going to answer our prayers and we'll be freed from the yoke of Obamacare," the Minnesota representative added. "I believe that's going to happen and we saw step one last week with the repeal of Obamacare in the House. We have two more steps. We serve a mighty God and I believe it can happen."

Bachmann's proposed bill calling for a full repeal of Obamacare passed the Republican-majority House of Representatives last Thursday with a 229 to 195 vote.

Bachmann added to Dobson that she has "renewed confidence" that her bill will pass the Senate in an upcoming vote.

Critics contend, however, that Bachmann's bill will have little chance of passing the Democrat-controlled Senate, and the Obama administration has asserted that it would veto any repeal bill that made its way to the president's desk.

Bachmann's Obamacare repeal bill is the 37th of its nature to be proposed; the other 36 were approved by the House of Representatives but didn't make their way past Senate.

While speaking on the House floor earlier this week, Bachmann once again warned of the perils of Obamacare, arguing that when government has full control of the health care system, Americans receive more expensive health care plans for less thorough coverage.

"The American people, especially vulnerable women, vulnerable children, vulnerable senior citizens, now get to pay more and they get less," Bachmann said on the House floor Tuesday.

"That's why we're here, because we're saying let's repeal this failure before it literally kills women, kills children, kills senior citizens. Let's not do that! Let's love people, let's care about people. Let's repeal it now while we can."

Citing her faith, she added, "As people of faith, I'm a born again believer in Jesus Christ. And I believe, as part of my duty as a believer in Christ and what he has done for me, that we should do for the least of those who are in our midst."

"That's my personal belief and my personal conviction. And that's why I want our government to create the space so that we can help people, because I'll guarantee you one thing, Mr. Speaker, this doesn't help people."

In contrast, Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) recently said that she believes it is "un-American" for Congress to fail to encourage Americans to sign up for government-mandated health insurance, according to The Weekly Standard.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) recently suggested that the House will continue to focus on repealing Obamacare, adding that a 38th vote on an Obamacare repeal bill is not out of the question.

"When we have further votes that we take, we'll let you know," Boehner told reporters on Thursday. "The issue is Obamacare. We're going to keep the focus on Obamacare."
