Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Release Date, Specs News: Leaks Reveal Specs Before Launch

Microsoft is attempting to regain some foothold in the mobile phone market with the release of its newest flagship phone, the Lumia 950 XL. The company has slated October 6 as a special event where reportedly Windows 10 hardware will be presented to the media. According to a report in Tech Times, several leaks have been circulating about the new phone, indicating that Microsoft will be revealing it alongside other Windows 10 devices during the October 6 event.

The report cited a leaked screengrab of what is supposed to be the Lumia 950 XL, which confirmed that the new device will be running on a build of Windows 10 Mobile.

In terms of the phone's specifications, it is rumored to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip, which is an octa-core processor. Its speed however is still unknown. According to the leak, the phone will also have an Andreno 430 graphics processing unit. Its processor will be coupled with 3 GB of RAM.

The phone's display resolution will be at 2,560 x 1,440 pixels which is essentially a QuadHD screen. Several leaks mention that the phone will have a 5.7-inch display, while another photo leak seems to contradict this claim.

Earlier leaks, according to another report in GSM Arena, say that the phone will have a 20-megapixel main camera, something that will beat the cameras of the latest flagships. Its selfie camera however will only be a 5-megapixel one.

The phone's battery will reportedly be a solid 3,300 mAh battery, while internal storage will only be available in one variant with 32 GB of storage, and microSD support for memory expansion. Like most new flagships, it will also be equipped with USB Type C support.

For added security, the phone is rumored to boast of an iris scanner. Using a stylus on the phone will be possible with native support.

Another report in GSM Arena cited a leaked factory render of the phone, detailing its exact dimensions at 151.9 (length) x 78.4 (width) and 7.8 (thick) mm. The thickest part of the device will be where the camera hump is located.

Microsoft has not made any announcements about this or any of its new devices, so October 6 will be the date to watch out for.
