Microsoft Surface Book vs. MacBook Pro Specs Review: Which Computer Is Worth Buying?

Microsoft has made a huge impression when it unveiled its new Surface Book, and this titan computer is now being touted as a tough competitor for Apple's MacBook Pro.

The Microsoft Surface Book is the closest rival of the Apple MacBook Pro right now. The two powerful devices are very similar in terms of size, weight, and battery, but the display specs and processor may give more points to the Surface Book, according to Gizmodo.

The 3.48-pound MacBook Pro has a 13.3-inch display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution. The 3.34-pound Surface Book, on the other hand, boasts of a 13.5-inch display with a 3000 x 2000 resolution. Both are powered by batteries that last for 12 hours. So, in terms of specs, it may all come down to the display quality and the processor, Tech Times reports.

The bigger Surface Pro's screen has more pixels and has higher pixel quality with an aspect ratio of 3:2, compared with the MacBook Pro's wide screen 16:10. In addition, the Surface Book's latest Intel Core processor is two times more powerful than the MacBook Pro's 2.7 GHz dual-core i5 chip, the report explains.

When it comes to design, the main difference lies in the hardware design. The Apple computer still has the same silver aluminum unibody appearance, and the latest Microsoft computer has a new hinge to allow the user to control the display bend. It also targets both the laptop fans and the tablet fans, because the latter can simply detach the display from the keyboard. However, this kind of design may affect the stability of the device.

Another aspect worth looking at is the camera of the two devices. The Surface Tab comes with an 8-megapixel rear snapper and 5-megapixel front snapper that can record 1080p videos. But the MacBook Pro only comes with a front camera that can record 720p videos, the report details.

The Surface Book with 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM comes with a price tag of $1,499, while the MacBook Pro with the same storage and RAM specs costs $1,299. While the price difference is considerable, it is worth noting that the additional $200 accounts for the faster processor and other better specs of the Surface Book.
