Microsoft Surface Phone News and Updates: Release Date Delayed Again? Business and Productivity Features Revealed

Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated phone launches of the year, Microsoft is expected to unveil the new Surface Phones. However, with no confirmed release dates, excited fans keep on guessing when they could get their hands on the new device.

Release Date Delayed Again

Earlier reports have speculated that the Surface Phones will be released along with the Surface Pro 5 and the new desktop All in One from Microsoft. Microsoft is set to hold an event this month, with various tech blogs and fans predicting the launch of these devices.

However, rumors have been increasing that the Surface Phones would not be launching together with the other Surface devices. This may largely be due to the fact that Intel has pulled out indefinitely from the mobile market. With Microsoft intending to incorporate Intel Kaby Lake chipsets in the Surface Phones, the company may be facing a challenge due to the pull out.

The earliest release date predicted for the Surface Phones is set sometime in 2017. This would make logical sense as it would give Microsoft enough time to acquire new chipset partnerships. This could also give Intel enough leeway to finish the Redstone processor in time for the release.

Business and Productivity

While the chipset is currently the subject of much controversy, other details and specifications of the Surface Phones have been rounding up the web. First off is the three variant scheme to be followed by Microsoft. There would be a basic model and a business model. The other variant still does not have any confirmed details.

With Microsoft always gearing their products and services toward productivity, the Surface Phone is no different. The upcoming phones are reportedly going to target the enterprise sector, with at least one of the phone variants equipped with business-centric features.

It is no secret that the Windows environment will make its way to the Surface Phone. However, the full extent of its mobile capability will be enhanced with major improvements and changes to be implemented in the new devices. Deeper integration with desktop and tablet devices would be heavily emphasized throughout the interface to define the Surface Phones' productivity features.

Other Specs and Features

The very capable Snapdragon 830 is the most likely candidate to power the device if Intel does not come through. This chipset, coupled with at least 3GB of RAM for the base model, 6GB for the next tier, and 8GB for the highest end variant, would deliver the smoothest performance in any device. Other specs such as the camera, the Continuum, the battery, and even the displays themselves would enhance the overall efficiency of every user.

The only question now is whether Microsoft could still penetrate the smartphone market which is currently saturated with premium phones and phablets. With the right price, specs, and features, the Surface Phone might just be able to stand against the other smartphone giants.
