Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Leaks and Release Date: Rumored Top-Notch Specs Coming with 2016 Flagship Variant

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is Anticipated by Fans for Its Potentially Powerful Specs

Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 leaks have been sparsely showing up on online blogs and tech sites with possible specs and release dates making the public yearn for the device.

Rumored Specs

With the tablet and laptop-tablet hybrid market dominated by Apple and Android devices, Microsoft is slowly making waves through its Surface Pro lineup. Currently on its 4th iteration released last year, fans of the device have been hotly anticipating the release of the new Surface Pro.

Factoring in both the scarce leaks pertaining to the Surface Pro 5's specifications and market predictions, the device is anticipated to come with a 12.3-inch display with PixelSense technology, much like its predecessor. The upcoming 2-in-1 tablet is also rumored to sport two variants, with display resolutions of either 2K (usually coming at 1440 x 2560 pixels, but may still vary) and 4K Ultra HD (which then usually comes at 3840 x 2160 pixels).

Tech sites are also teeming with rumors that the flagship variant of the new Surface Pro 5 will sport a whopping 16 GB of RAM natively. Graphics may also be powered either by AMD or the Nvidia Pascal GPU. The device will run on Windows 10 Redstone 2 update, which in itself is rumored to be released on Spring 2017.

It is also anticipated to pack a hugely improved battery with USB-C support for charging, or even quick charging. Lastly, the device is rumored to house Intel's new seventh-generation processor, Kaby Lake.

As per usual, the tablet is said to come with an upgrade for the Surface Pen. The pen could now be packing a battery setup that supports wireless charging through a magnetic attachment either to the tablet body or a dock. These were hinted by a patent for the new features from Microsoft.

Improving on the Surface Pro 4

The Surface Pro 4 has been highly praised by tech critics and reviewers since its release last year. Coming in with Windows 10 Pro, a similar 12.3-inch PixelSense display, an Intel m3 processor for the base model up to Intel Core i7 for the highest model, an SSD storage of up to 1 terabyte, and Intel HD graphics, nothing much could be said about the device.

However, critics then found the short battery life amiss, along with slow performance of the base model, and finally, the keyboard cover (which essentially allows a 2-in-1 device to work) was a separate purchase. These are the things that the Surface Pro 5 is expected to either improve on or totally fix altogether.

Rumored Release Date

Rumors on the release date of the device are a bit inconsistent. Previous reports of a June 2016 are clearly now thrown off. Some leaks point to a Fall 2016 release to potentially compete with the new rumored iPad models. Other sources, however, point out to a Spring 2017 release, allowing Microsoft to further perfect the device ahead of its release.
