Microsoft Surface Pro vs. Macbook Air Comparison, Specs Review: Which One Will Suit You?

Needless to say, there are only two names of operating systems that are known to come at par with each other: the Windows OS and the OS X. With that in mind, it can't be helped to compare its respective devices: the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and the Macbook Air.

The first device claims to offer the best of what a tablet and a laptop can give. The latter, on the other hand, promises a sleek, lightweight, and fast computer usage experience. To look a bit closer, here's a comparative review of the two devices.

Starting off with the price range, the Macbook Air graces the retail stores with an $899 tag for its 11-inch model. The Surface Pro 3 can be bought at $799 for its Intel Core i3 processor variant.

Looking at its design and portability, the Surface Pro is by far the lighter of the two even when its detachable keyboard is attached at 1.1 kg. The Macbook Air weighs around 1.34 kg for its 13-inch version.

When it comes to screen and display, here's a back to back comparison from Trusted Reviews.

"Microsoft Surface Pro 3: 12.1-inch, 3:2 aspect, 2160 x 1440 (216ppi), touchscreen. MacBook Air: 13.3-inch, 16:10 aspect ratio, 1440 x 900 (128ppi)," the site wrote.

As with the specs and performance, it's hard to differentiate the power of the two as they both score well in the Geekbench 3 with the Mac at 5,401 and the Surface Pro at 5,532.

Both bearing the Haswell processors, the Surface Pro 3 can run at 1.9GHz and if Turbo Boosted can clocked in at 2.9GHz. In contrast, the MacBook has two 1.4GHz with up to 2.7GHz Turbo Boost capacity.

Talking about battery life, the Surface Pro 3 may fall short with that of the MacBook Air. The latter could run for up to 12 hours straight of web browsing, video viewing and other uses. The other, given its immense display specs, can perform uninterrupted for 7-9 hours.

The bottom line is that it all boils down on to how you intend to use the device. If you find yourself spending time writing emails, reports, and browsing the social media world, then the Cupertino-based technology is right for you.

However, if you are more into video editing, photoshopping, and other heavy applications, then the much more power-packed device from Microsoft will serve better for you.
