The upcoming Microsoft Surface tablet will be released as a Wi-Fi only device initially, according to a new report.

However, this does not mean that a 3G or 4G LTE model is not on the way. But still, Microsoft's plans are unclear at the moment.

Bloomberg published a report that cited two "people familiar with the matter," who stated that the Surface will go on sale without a connection to a mobile phone network.

If this is true, it will be difficult for Microsoft's tablet to compete with the iPad that is currently available on AT&T and Verizon.

Microsoft's plans to take the tablet market by storm could have also been thwarted by a faulty presentation made by the company's president of Windows and Windows Live Division Steven Sinofsky.

In his attempts to display some of the new Windows 8 Surface tablet's finer features like its own Netflix app, Sinofsky touched the device's screen and it did not respond.

The frozen tablet stayed that way until he snuck off to grab another model behind the podium.

Microsoft created a lot of hype for this Surface tablet, but this freezing incident certainly will turn many tech enthusiasts off from purchasing it.

No one likes when their smartphone, iPod, computer or tablet freezes. And as for the statement "any press is good press," that gets thrown out the window in a situation such as this one.

Apple might not have to worry about much competition this time around. A Wi-Fi only tablet just does not seem like it would attract enough customers to the Windows 8 device and freezing is not something you want to happen to your product when you putting it up against the king of the tablet market.

Microsoft plans to launch its Windows 8-powered Surface tablet in the near future as answer to Apple's extremely successful iPad.
