Microsoft Surface Featuring Metal Body to Be Out Soon?

A Microsoft Surface Phone with a metal body is about to make its way to the shelves soon, based on the latest rumors among tech enthusiasts.

Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela recently caught the attention of fans when he hinted at a device that "exploits the seam between" an iPad and a Mac. Capossela's This Week in Windows Weekly podcast talked about a device that can function like more than just a phone for Windows lovers, according to The Bitbag.

Capossela also said the mystery phone should be a "real breakthrough," which should make him do a double take before buying his 17th iPhone. Although he did not exactly mention a Microsoft Surface Phone, many insiders predicted that the company may actually be working on such a device, the report details.

Sources familiar with Microsoft's plan have reported that Panos Panay and his team of engineers are working on a new flagship phone. It is worth noting that Panos' team was the one responsible for the Microsoft Surface and the Surface Book. Because of that, some are expecting the Microsoft Surface Phone to sport a metallic body, but this piece of information is still unconfirmed.

Other reports say the Surface Phone will sport a similar design to the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4 tablet. It will follow that the device will come with a premium price tag.

Another rumor says the Surface Phone is touted to be the replacement for Microsoft's Lumia lineup. In addition, the company has already approved the plans for the Intel-powered smartphone in December 2015, Express reports.

If the rumors prove to be true, the new smartphone is expected to be released alongside the next update to Windows 10 Mobile, the report adds.

Microsoft is reportedly planning to release the Microsoft Surface Phone in the second half of 2016. Until the rumors are confirmed, fans will have to wait a bit before they can lay their eyes on the company's upcoming flagship device.
