1. Murray Supports Gay Marriage

Murray is a self-identified libertarian and like many libertarians, he leans progressive on assorted issues like same-sex marriage and abortion.

At the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference, Murray gave a speech in which he told his right-leaning audience that on gay marriage "the train has left the station."

While supporting the overturning of Roe v. Wade and bringing abortion back to the state level, Murray wondered aloud to what extent it could be legislated against, noting "it's a homicide — but sometimes homicide is justified."

Murray argued that the Republicans were not going to bring in more voters as long as they considered the GOP "to be run by anti-abortion, anti-gay, religious nuts."
