Miley Cyrus' Performance Defended By Justin Timberlake

Miley Cyrus may have shocked a number of people with her raunchy performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs, but fellow singer Justin Timberlake recently defended her against critics.

Cyrus, the 20-year-old actress and recording artist, left tongues wagging during her MTV Video Music Awards performance Sunday, when she stripped down to a nude bikini while suggestively dancing on and touching married R&B singer Thicke, 36. However, Timberlake
suggested that the MTV awards show viewers should be used to seeing over the top performances.

"Listen, man, you know, it's the VMAs," Timberlake said on the Jim & Kim morning radio show on Fresh 102.7. "What did you guys expect?"

Timberlake, 32, insisted that Cyrus, a former Disney Channel star, was simply exploring adulthood.

"I like Miley. I like her a lot," he told the radio station. "I think, you know, she's young. She's letting everybody know that she's growing up."
However, everybody did not follow Timberlake's sentiments. Thicke's mother, Gloria Loring, recently spoke out about the younger former Disney star.

"I don't understand what Miley Cyrus is trying to do," Loring, the former Days of Our Lives actress told Yahoo omg! INSIDER. "I think she's misbegotten in this attempt of hers. And I think it was not beneficial."

Loring admitted that she had a hard time getting the image out of her head.

"I just keep thinking of her mother and father watching this. Oh, Lord, have mercy. … I was not expecting her to be putting her butt that close to my son," Thicke's mother admitted to OMG! Insider. "The problem is now I can never 'unsee' it."

However, Cyrus did not seem to mind that her performance had garnered so much attention even if it was for the wrong reasons.

"Smilers! My VMA performance had 306.000 tweets per minute," Miley tweeted to over 13 million Twitter followers Monday. "That's more than the blackout or Superbowl! #fact."
