Miley Cyrus' 'We Can't Stop' is About Ecstasy, Singer Admits: 'I Wanted It On the Radio'

Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" song, with its infamous lyrics "we like to party / dancing with molly" is about drugs, the singer admitted in an interview recently. Although her producer initially said the lyrics were "dancing with Miley," the 20-year-old singer said that was a lie to get the tune on the radio.

Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop," which was released in June, has become one of the most popular songs in the country: it has peaked at no. 3 on the Billboard 100 list, sold 1 million singles, and garnered hundreds of thousands of digital downloads. Still, the song has been lambasted by some critics for its racy content, like references to drug use and other provocative lyrics.

"If you're aged 10 [the lyric is] Miley," the singer told Daily Mail of the song's reference to "molly," or the drug ecstasy. "If you know what I'm talking about then you know. I just wanted it to be played on the radio and they've already had to edit it so much.

"I don't think people have a hard time understanding that I've grown up. You can Google me and you know what I'm up to- you know what the lyric is saying," Cyrus continued.

Even more explicit than the unabashed drug references is Cyrus video for "We Can't Stop," which is chock full of sexual innuendo. Despite various critics highlighting the video's raciness, the singer said she thought the video "wasn't bad" before it was shown.

"No gyrating … there was a lot less. They took out literally everything," she told Daily Mail. "I thought the video wasn't bad, then MTV in the U.K. sent, like, 18 notes asking for changes."
