'Miley: The Movement': Cyrus, Britney Spears Joke About VMAs in New Documentary (VIDEO)
Miley Cyrus is gearing up to release her new documentary on the MTV network and after watching it, viewers may finally understand what exactly inspired the singer's widely criticized VMAs performance.
"Miley: The Movement" premieres Oct. 2 on MTV and in it Cyrus, 19, opens up about her quest to redefine her career while sharing footage from the recording studio and her time on the road. The former Disney star made headlines on Aug. 25 when she took to the stage in Brooklyn, N.Y., and performed a lewd dance routine. Critics claim the over-the-top performance was a desperate attempt to permanently break away from her "good girl" image.
In the documentary viewers see Cyrus speaking to pop star Britney Spears ahead of her now infamous VMAs performance and she admits to not taking it as seriously as most. The former "Hannah Montana" star ended up dancing to Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" while dressed in latex underwear.

"Everyone takes the VMAs so seriously," Cyrus told Spears before jokingly saying, "I just wanna come out and like shoot a hot dog gun."
Over the past year Cyrus has made headlines for questionable actitives like her substantial weight loss; edgy haircuts; getting her 10th tattoo and wrist cutting suspicion. The singer appears to have no regrets about her erratic behavior.
"I was born to become who I am right now," Cyrus boldly states to the camera. "I'm at a point in my career where I can be exactly what I want to be, who I want to be."
In one scene Cyrus appears to address the VMAs backlash and she alludes to not being afraid to push the envelope.
"You're always going to make people talk," Cyrus says. "You might as well make them talk for two weeks, rather than two seconds."
Cyrus faced severe backlash for her VMAs performance, such as reportedly losing the opportunity to cover Vogue magazine in December and a broken engagement to Liam Hemsworth. Vogue Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour allegedly decided against the idea due to the controversy surrounding Cyrus' performance.
"Anna found the whole thing distasteful," a source told HollywoodNewsDaily. "She decided, based on Miley's performance, to take the cover in a different direction."
On Monday, reps for Cyrus and Hemsworth confirmed that the pair, who began dating in 2010, broke of their engagement and ultimately decided to split.
