Minnesota Timberwolves NBA 2015 News, Rumors: Kevin Garnett to Buy Timberwolves?

The Minnesota Timberwolves dealt for former their former star Kevin Garnett at the trade deadline. Now the two sides are working on a two year deal together that would keep Kevin in Minnesota through the end of his NBA playing career.

Now there are rumors that Garnett could team up with Minnesota Head Coach Flip Saunders to purchase the team with both men likely steeping into front office roles when and if they can accomplish a purchase.

The Timberwolves are for sale. Their owner, Glen Taylor who bought the team in 1995 for 89 million dollars, would like to sell the team to someone who will keep it in the Twin Cities. However he wants to see what the Atlanta Hawks get on the market before he commits to a sale. He may also be willing to bring in partners and reduce his role with the team.

Kevin Garnett is without a doubt the greatest player in T'Wolves history coming to the team directly from High School to play for then Head Coach Flip Saunders. Flip is back as head coach and President which gives both interested parties long history with the franchise.

The question then becomes what are the T'Wolves worth? Forbes.com list their value at 625 million but given what the Los Angeles Clippers recently sold for that value is likely greater.

Pro Basketball Talk is reporting that Garnett has made 325 million dollars during his NBA career. They also report that Saunders has made 40 million during his time in the NBA. That would mean these two would need serious money behind them to get a deal done.

NBA.com states that no other player has made more money in the NBA than Garnett. Most of that money was paid out by Taylor so this would be a nice way to keep the team in Minnesota and for Taylor to get a return on the massive investment he made in Garnett right out of High School.
