Miss Teen World 2012 Reveals Opposition to Abortion, Support for Abstinence

Gabriele Marinho, 17, crowned 2012 Teen World in Houston has revealed that she is against abortion and supports virginity before marriage.

“I am very happy. And I overcame the prejudice [of coming from a poor region in Brazil]” Marinho said in an interview to Brazilian publication G1.

In the interview she revealed her conservative side saying that she does not smoke and drink and is against the abortion, except in cases of rape or fetal death.

She also supports young people who preach keeping their virginity before marriage, though she said that meeting such advocates was rare in today’s society.

Regarding artificially modifying oneself the teen said she would not use silicone implants and would refuse any plastic surgery.

Gabriele Marinho was born in a region characterized by the highest levels of poverty in Brazil. Because of this, the teenager said that she faced discrimination, although she has refused to allow it affect her.

People very often question where she comes from, with many believing that she was actually born in the Rio Grande do Sul, in the south of Brazil, where the population is mostly of European descendent.

“’Were you really born in Alagoas?’ They asked. On my first contest I was asked if it was true that I was from Maceió [capital of Alagoas]. But I replied: ‘my accent does not lie’,” she said.

Gabriele Marinho began her work as a model at the age of 12 and her victory has also seen her awarded a $30,000 scholarship to study at an American University.

The model wishes to study to become an actress or TV host, but for now she will continue her career as a model.
