Mission Group JAARS Installs New President

A 61-year-old mission group that assists in Bible translation installed their eighth president Saturday morning and later dedicated a special aircraft.

JAARS, Inc., which provides technical support services and resources to Wycliffe Bible Translators, SIL International and related organizations, officially installed David Reeves as its new president Saturday at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, N.C., outside of Charlotte.

Reeves is a 24-year veteran of the Wycliffe Bible Translators family of organizations, which JAARS is a part of.

After the installation ceremony, a separate dedication event was held for the first of five new KODIAK airplanes specially produced by Quest Aircraft. The cost-efficient KODIAK plane uses jet fuel instead of the more expensive and hard to find aviation gas. It also can carry nearly twice the cargo of previous mission aircraft.

The new JAARS aircraft dedicated on Saturday is among the first fruits of an 11-year effort to design a cost-efficient plane to better serve missionary agencies. The very first KODIAK plane was delivered to Mission Aviation Fellowship in March.

Founded in 1948, JAARS provides services to Bible translation teams including aviation, maritime and land transportation; information technology and telecommunications; construction and maintenance, and vernacular media services.

JAARS, along with its partners, embraces the vision that by the year 2025, a Bible translation program will be in progress for every language still needing one.
