'Moana' Release Date, News & Updates: Pacific Ocean Finally Introduced as 'Very Important Character' in The New Disney Film [VIDEO]

The new international trailer of "Moana," the upcoming CG-animated feature by Walt Disney Animation Studios, has showcased an adorable side of the musical fantasy-adventure movie. The short clip also introduced one significant character of the story – the Pacific Ocean.

Princess Moana Meets The Water For The First Time

Released on July 20, the one-minute international trailer gave a glimpse to the childhood of Princess Moana Waialiki, the cherubic titular character of the Disney film. Baby Moana is seen enjoying the beach when a sentient ocean started to play along with her. The fun was cut short after a voice called the baby princess.

It can be recalled that the teenage Moana and her would-be travel confidant Maui, a demigod, were already introduced in the previous trailer of the Disney film. The new trailer appeared to explain why the Disney princess is gifted with navigational talent.

The Significance of The New 'Moana' Trailer

According to ComicBook.com, the scenario depicted in the new trailer of the Disney film was already explained by "Moana" director Ron Clements at the Disney D23 Expo last year. "There is one other very important character we want to mention in this movie, the Pacific Ocean," he stated. He narrated that when he and his team visited the South Pacific to conduct a research, they found out that the locals would talk to the ocean like a real person or a friend.

"Moana," which is set to hit theaters on November 23, 2016, will follow the journey of an island chief's only daughter who is set to sail from her ancient South Pacific home of Oceania to search for a fabled island. Newcomer Auli'i Cravalho wil lend her voice to the new Disney princess, while Dwayne Johnson will be voicing Maui.

Moana is a Different Disney Princess

According to Movie Plot, Moana will be the first Polynesian princess featured in a Disney film. "She's brave, she is so empowered, she knows what she wants and she's not afraid to get it, and I think that's something that I can relate to as well," Cravalho talked about her role in an interview with People last year.

Moreover, the 14-year-old Cravalho was picked to play Moana among hundreds of candidates. Co-director John Musker revealed that Cravalho landed the role because she possesses some of Moana's qualities.

The first trailer of Moana was released last June, gaining mostly positive reviews. However, it also ignited controversy after some Polynesians lambasted the trailer for depicting the demigod Maui as obese.
