Model Scruggs Making ‘Remarkable’ Recovery, Supporters Help With Medical Bills

A group of supporters gathered on Tuesday night to raise money to help model Lauren Scruggs with her medical bills and to laud her positive spirit.

Supporters held the event at Sambuca 360 in Plano, Texas, in support of the Lauren Scruggs Hope Fund. The event, which featured a silent auction with donated items by local businesses, was set up by Scruggs’ family to help with her medical bills.

Scruggs’ family says the model is making a “remarkable recovery” after she walked into an airplane propeller in early December.

Scruggs, 23, had her left eye removed, severed her left hand and suffered wounds to her head and shoulder after she accidentally walked into a spinning plane propeller in the dark. The model and fashion blogger from Dallas, Texas, was on a trip with a pilot friend to see Christmas lights near Dallas.

The family has been updating supporters on Scruggs’ condition via CaringBridge.org.

“Lo is making remarkable strides!’’ Cheryl Scruggs, the model’s mother, wrote on the site on Monday. “Her spirit is incredible. She's positive, hungry and cheery! Her appetite is very healthy, even though she is still taking lots of pain medication.’’

“Very strong,’’ one event attendee told NBC News about the young model. “Always positive. You just instantly fall in love with her.’’

The family also reports that Scruggs is already walking, talking, and doing many other activities by herself as she attends rehabilitation at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Scruggs’ mother also wrote that although her daughter is recovering well and enjoyed the Christmas holiday, Scruggs’ twin sister Brittany is suffering along with her.

“Being twins, and having a bond that most never understand, Britt's left eye has been twitching for the last 4-5 days every 30 seconds or so,’’ Momma Scruggs wrote on CaringBridge.org. “She knows it's because of the deep connection she and Lo have, and God allowing her to go through this with her at the ‘twin’ level.’’

The final figure from the event has not been given, but at least $10,000 was raised so far, NBC reported.
