Montreal Canadiens Injury Update: Carey Price Out Another Week

Just as the Montreal Canadiens are making a push into contention, the team's star goalie unfortunately will miss another week after suffering from a lower body injury. This means that Michel Therrien's team will have to again rely on backup Mike Condon to hold the fort for them in a week or so.

Therrien announced the development on Tuesday, saying that although Price won't be seeing action for this week, the organization is confident that his injury will not keep him out any longer than seven days. For Condon, the absence of Price for the time being means that he'll be staring at his sixth start for the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins on the celebration of the annual fathers and sons trip on Wednesday.

But Condon is no pushover, showing that he's more than capable of doing the job. In the five games he started so far, the goalie allowed only eight goals, wherein Montreal has gone 4-0-1 in those games.

Team officials decided to have Price go to New York on Monday for the purpose of getting a second opinion on his lower back since his first treatment last week didn't produce the kind of results the team wanted. "The good news is that his diagnosis hasn't changed. He won't play this week but we will wait for him to react better to treatment and hopefully he will get his skates back on the ice soon," Therrien said.

The coach also didn't fail to recognize the contribution of Condon and his ability to show he can step up. "He was the third star in the NHL last week, which is good for him, good for his confidence." He added, "He's taking the good approach about playing one game at a time and he's working really hard."

With still more than 60 games before the end of the regular season, there's really no reason to push the panic button, especially when Condon is playing great.
