Most Parents Say 'Wait Until Marriage'

Parents know what’s best for their children, especially when it comes to purity.

In a poll surveying 1,004 parents with children under the age 18, a tremendous number of parents approve of education programs teaching the message of abstinence until marriage.

"The study shows that about 80 percent of parents want their kids taught that their kids should abstain from sexual activity either until they are married or until they're in an adult relationship that's very close to marriage," Robert Rector, an analyst at The Heritage Foundation, which headed the poll along with Focus on the Family.

Linda Klepacki, manager of the abstinence department at Focus on the Family, points to the study's conclusion that "parents want sex education — the messages their teens are getting — to be linked to the three concepts of love, intimacy and commitment."

Only a marginal 7 percent of parents did not disapprove of educational programs teaching their children that it’s OK to have sex as long a condom is used.

Marital stability and happiness are better attained if children stay sexually pure until marriage—that’s the message more than 75% of surveyed parents wanted the sex-ed programs to teach.
