A mother of two was hoping for a "mummy makeover" when she arrived in South Florida to have a tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast augmentation. Unfortunately, the 39-year-old died just days after the procedures, and her family is calling for an investigation into her death.

Adriana DeSilva, who lived in Westchester, New York, traveled to Florida for the surgery because it would be less expensive and she would be able to have all the procedures done at the same time. Unfortunately, she slipped into a coma after suffering a stroke the day after being released from the clinic with a clean bill of health.

Her family has said her death is "suspicious" and are awaiting autopsy results to determine whether they will file suit against Dr. Daniel M. Zeichner, the surgeon who performed the operations and discharged DeSilva with a clean bill of health.

"I did not have a problem during surgery," Zeichner said in a statement. "Multiple procedures are done quite frequently, and that amount of time she was under anesthesia is not uncommon. She was discharged according to the guidelines the Center follows, under rules administered by the State of Florida," he added.

Yet the lawyer hired by the DeSilva family is seeking further explanation as to what led to Adriana's illness and death.

"She received, on April 5, which was a Friday, a breast augmentation, a breast lift, an extended tummy tuck and a neck liposuction, all which were done at the same time. She was under anesthesia for nearly six hours and was only kept at the facility for an hour and a half after the procedure. The following day she started to have very serious complications. It's our understanding, at this time, she had some type of stroke. She was on life support and eventually was taken off," Daniel Harwin told WSVN News.

"I miss her a lot... how she takes care of me," DeSilva's son, Kevin, told WSVN.

"I was happy for her," 14-year-old daughter Kerolayne Stuwer added. "It was something she wanted to do. It was a present that she was going to give herself for her birthday and for Mother's Day. It's been hard. She's gone. She took, like, a part of me, but I have to be strong for my brother and be there when he needs me."

Now the children will return to Brazil to live with their grandmother while the investigation into their mother's death continues. "Florida has become sort of the wild, wild west of cosmetic procedures, and if we don't do something about it, more people are going to continue to lose their lives," Harwin told Capital Bay News.
