Moto X2 to Run Android 5.0 L Version, Release Date Coming Soon

A new video leaked onto the internet this week that displays a device that could be the Moto X2 running Android 5.0 "L" version software.

The smartphone is slightly larger than the Nexus 5 which comes with a 4.95-inch display. It also features a masking tape overcoat to hide identifying markings that could incriminate the person who made the video.

9to5Google feels that it could be Verizon's version of the Moto X2, however, the narrator of the video claims that it might be another Motorola Droid phone scheduled to be launched through the carrier this year. Nor Verizon or Motorola have commented on the video at this time.

The Moto X2 or X+1 was recently spotted in a video that was posted by TK Tech news that also featured the device covered in layers of plastic to hide any identifying marks. The site claims this is a Verizon test version of the new Moto X since it features some of the carrier's bloatware.

The video also reveals that the new model will feature a 1080p display and thinner bezel. It is currently rumored to be called the Moto X+1.

The new model was also seen in Motorola's Moto Maker by a German mobile blog known as MobiFlip. Motorola removed the listing, however, the blog was able to capture a screenshot of it before that happened.

Another report pointed to the Moto X2 release date being in the summer 2014 as Motorola hinted at this during this year's Mobile World Congress at a Q&A session. They said "the next version of Moto X" will arrive sometime in "late summer." Motorola also plans to expand availability of its current smartphone lineup and the Moto Maker tool for its customers. Motorola will bring it to Europe and Mexico.

The company also plans to stick with Android as its primary OS. It also confirmed that the original Moto X will be released in India and Australia during the next few weeks.
