Motorola Unveils Moto X Play – Cheaper and With Bigger Battery

On July 28, Motorola announced its new flagship phones in a special press event. Details about their new devices however did not come as a surprise for the public, as numerous leaks about what the company had in store were already circulating weeks, if not months before the event.

According to a report in Tech Times, Motorola however was able to keep one of the three new phones under wraps before the announcement. The new Moto G and the new Moto X were the two phones which had their specs leaked. The Moto X, also called Moto X Style, is the company's newest flagship phone. It is slightly larger than the previous generation, at 5.7-inches and has an improved battery performance. The Moto G, on the other hand, is the third generation of the Moto G line and this new phone remains the low-cost option, but still highly customizable. It is also the first to be made available in the market among the three.

What the leakers missed is another new phone, called Moto X Play, which a "smaller, cheaper version" of Moto X Style. According to the Motorola website, the phone's biggest come on is its "massive battery." The company also says that its battery will "last two days at a time and can get eight hours of power from a 15-minute charge."

According to another report in The Verge, the Moto X Play has a smaller screen at 5.5 inches with 1080 pixel resolution full HD display. Its main rear-facing camera is a 21 megapixel one, which its secondary front-facing camera is 5 megapixel. It is also water repellent and has a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

Like the two other phones that were revealed, the Moto X Play is also customizable through the Moto Maker. In terms of price points, the company has not yet announced how much it will cost, but it said that it will be $300 to $400 less than other flagships such as the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S6.

It will be available in 55 countries in August, but sadly, the United States is not one of these countries. Buyers would have to wait for further announcements whether Motorola will bring the phone to the U.S.
