MTV EMA 2011 Winners: Lady Gaga Rules Awards Show - Winners List (PHOTOS)

The MTV Europe Music Awards 2011 has been dominated by Lady Gaga tonight in Belfast.

Gaga won Best Song for her song “Born This Way,” beating a host of other stars including Eminem and Kanye West.

Collecting her award she said: “I knew that this song was very special when I wrote it… I just didn't know how special it would be. I love you Little Monsters, until the end!”

The award was presented to her by actress Hayden Panettiere.

Best Female Act also went to Lady Gaga. She said, “Thank you so much, I love you so much. I'm so grateful. I'm really smiling right now, but I know you can't tell.”

Best Male Act went to devout Christian Justin Bieber who thanked his family and fans: “Never say never, right?”

Among the runners up for the best female act were Jennifer Lopez, Adele, Katy Perry and Beyonce.

Katy Perry won the best live act award and American band Thirty Seconds to Mars won best alternative act.

It was the first time the MTV awards have been held in Belfast.

"It is great that Northern Ireland is getting an international spotlight thrown at it in such a positive way," said Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody, according to BBC News.

He went on to say that the event is an “incredible opportunity for people to think about the music in Northern Ireland.”
