Muslim Extremists in London Burn U.S. Flag During 9/11 Moment of Silence

September 12, 2011|10:46 pm

Muslim radicals have set fire to the U.S. flag while protesting in front of the American embassy in London during a moment of silence being held in memory of the 9/11 victims on the 10th anniversary.

While those at the memorial at Grosvenor Square paused to commemorate the moment the first hijacked plane hit the World Trade Center a decade ago, a group of 100 radicals, including members of Muslims Against Crusades, shouted slurs against the United States.

“USA terrorists,” the group chanted while holding signs of various anti-American slogans.

“You will always face suffering, you will always face humiliation, unless you withdraw your troops from Muslim lands,” said one protestor.

Nearby, a small group staged a counter-demonstration, holding up signs that read "Muslims Against Extremism" and "If You Want Sharia, Move To Saudi."

The group noted that they’d travelled hundreds of miles to protest against the anti-American protestors.

Abdul Sallam, 41, travelled from Glasgow, U.K. to London in order to protest. The sign he held read, "Keep The Silence."

"I'm a Muslim. What they're doing is bringing shame on all Muslims. This is not part of the teachings of Islam. Islam teaches you that when you see anything bad or evil, you should speak out against it,” Sallam told the Daily Mail.

"If the moderate Muslims all came out and spoke out, that would defeat them. I am proud to be British. I love my country. All these people are doing is breaking Britain apart."

Many others who were upset at the protestors also spoke out.

One man at the Grosvenor Square memorial, whose cousin died in the World Trade Center, said the protestors shouldn’t have been allowed to use loudspeakers in their demonstration.

"They shouldn't be allowed to do it. It's very disrespectful. It's too loud,” he told the Daily Mail.

“They can say what they want but not with the loudspeaker. They shouldn't obstruct the service.”

Approximately 20 people were arrested when members of the right wing group, the English Defense League, got into a scuffle with police after being directed to move their protest to accommodate the anti-American protest.

At least four people from the Muslim group were arrested, including one man who spat at photographers as he was being apprehended.
