Muslims Disown Gay Bishop

The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (Supkem) yesterday joined the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in denouncing the consecration of a gay bishop in America.

Mombasa branch chairman, Sheikh Juma Ngao, said the stand taken by ACK to severe ties with the openly gay American bishop was a step in the right direction.

He said Islam was against homosexuality and added that Muslims will unite with other religions in condemning the practice.

Ngao said the Quran and the bible state very clearly that homosexuality is a sin against God.

"Muslims join ACK in condemning the consecration of a gay bishop because this is a vice which is against the holy books", he said.

The cleric urged Muslims world-wide to condemn the consecration of the gay bishop in America or else they might soon find the vice getting into mosques in America.

He said the biblical Soddom and Gomorrah were burnt by God because some people in the region engaged in homosexuality.

"If God himself burnt Sodom and Gomorra, who are we as human beings to allow homosexuality in houses of God? posed the cleric.

The Anglican Church of Kenya said yesterday they would severe ties with the openly homosexual bishop who was consecrated last Sunday.

The Rev Canon V Gene Robinson was consecrated bishop of the US Episcopal Church. His installation as the bishop of New Hampshire has split the Anglican Church in two and sparked a flurry of denunciations across the world.

The Anglican Church of Kenya(ACK) has said it will severe ties with the gay bishop. The head of ACK, Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi, announced that the church will have nothing to do with the bishop and all bishops involved in his consecration.
