'Narcos' Season 3: One Thing That the Cali Cartel Would Not Worry About

Now that Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) is no more, "Narcos" season 3 will focus on the Cali cartel, the group that exploded after the fall of the Medellin cartel.

But if there is one thing the new players in the drug trade will not have to worry about in the new season, it is Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook).

Holbrook has confirmed that he will sit this season out. Speaking to We Got This Covered, he said that "Narcos" season 3 is "shooting right now actually, but not with me. I'm not in it."

It is no surprise that Holbrook will not reprise his role. The abovementioned publication says that with Holbrook's growing popularity, he gets busier and could be more inclined to big movie roles. The actor starts in the Wolverine film, "Logan."

Also, his character in real life actually had no involvement with the takedown on the Cali cartel. For the uninitiated, the real Murphy left for United States after the death of Escobar.

The real Javier Pena, who is played by Pedro Pascal in the series, did the same thing although the character will still be heavily involved in "Narcos" season 3.

Executive producer Eric Newman has said last year that he would want to bring Pascal back into the fold to reprise his role despite what the history books had to say.

"We try to be as bound to what actually happened as we can — within reason, obviously. We do take some liberties for dramatic purposes," Newman told Entertainment Weekly.

"But I'd probably have to look at what Pena's role would be in the Cali, in taking down Cali. I love working with Pedro Pascal, so nothing would make me happier than to be back in business with him in some way," he went on to say.

Pascal has been keeping fans up to date on the filming via his Instagram. He has been sharing photos from the set, where he hangs out with "Narcos" season 3 newcomer, Miguel Angel Silvestre.

As for Pena, he will work in "Narcos" season 3 with two new DEA agents be played by Michael David-Stahl and Matt Whelan.

"Narcos" season 3 is expected to premiere this September on Netflix.
