Nat'l Conference of The Gospel Coalition to Webcast Live

April 16, 2009|2:48 pm

The Gospel Coalition’s National Conference will be streamed live this year through a special partnership between Web portal site Christianity.com and the organization of pastors and churches, according to an announcement Tuesday.

The 2009 National Conference will be broadcast live April 21-23 from the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Chicago, and will feature speakers including Pastors John Piper and Mark Driscoll.

"The partnership between The Gospel Coalition and Christianity.com is extremely important to us as we strive to provide solid Biblical content to our audience," expressed Stephen McGarvey, executive editor of Crosswalk.com and Christianity.com, in Tuesday’s announcement. Crosswalk.com and Christianity.com are both members of the Salem Web Network, a subsidiary of Salem Communications Corporation.

"The Gospel Coalition's mission of encouraging churches across the country to make the gospel of Jesus Christ central to all they do is a vision we whole-heartedly support," McGarvey added.

"We believe The Gospel Coalition's message will be of great benefit to Christians in all stages of their faith – from new believers to seasoned pastors."

Starting next Tuesday, over 3,000 pastors and students of pastoral ministry will gather for the coalition’s national conference – the organization’s second one – seeking a renewal of faithful preaching that is rooted in the Scriptures and centered on the gospel.

The theme of the three-day conference will be "Entrusted with the Gospel: Living the Vision of Second Timothy" and each of the plenary sessions will expound the book of Second Timothy.

“It is through these expositions that we hope to model the sort of preaching through Scripture of which the church is in need, while teaching the glories of this gospel of the blessed God that has been entrusted to the care of the church,” conference organizers say.

Throughout the three-day conference, there will be addresses on gospel-faithful ministry and the global challenges and priorities of gospel-faithful mission as well as several workshops devoted to the faithful appropriation of text (Scripture) to context (contemporary issues).

Furthermore, in addition to streaming The Gospel Coalition’s 2009 National Conference in a free Webcast, Christianity.com will be making all videos from the conference available on demand for free.

"We are encouraged by our partnership with Christianity.com and the Salem Web Network," expressed Ben Peays, executive director of The Gospel Coalition. "With SWN's vast reach, this is a strategic alliance that will strengthen our efforts to impact evangelical Christianity with a Gospel-centered vision for ministry."

Though the conference is aimed at pastors and students of pastoral ministry, all are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Workshop topics include "The Gospel and Social Action," "Ministering in a Church-Hopping Society," "The Gospel and Money," and "Staying Faithful, Staying Relevant: The Use and Abuse of Polemical Preaching," among others.

Birthed only a couple of years ago, The Gospel Coalition describes itself as a group of mostly pastors and churches in the Reformed heritage. It has also described itself as a fellowship of evangelical churches.
