This year’s Chairman of National Bible Week is encouraging everyone not only to read the Bible during the eight days of the celebration which runs from November 21-28, but also consistently throughout the next year.

“The Bible is God’s gift to us, His children, as an everlasting means of affirming truth. It is teacher and encourager, an expression of purpose for our very being, and a voice of love,” said Dr. John M. Templeton, Jr., President of the John Templeton Foundation, Chairman of National Bible Week.

Each year a nationally known individual from either the professional or corporate sector volunteers to serve as Chairman of this week-long celebration of the importance of the Bible in our nation’s life and culture, according to National Bible Association (NBA), a group of business and professional leaders, which sponsors the observation.

National Bible Week, which was first observed in 1941 “to offer the nation a source of comfort and hope in the dark days when Europe was engulfed in World War II,” according to an NBA press release, is held from Sunday to Sunday of Thanksgiving Week.
