National Chocolate Chip Day 2014 Today, Score Deals on Cookies

National Chocolate Chip Day arrives on Thursday this year with people across the U.S. celebrating the famous baking staple.

The holiday arrives each year on May 15 honoring chocolate chips and the numerous ways they can be used while making delicious treats. The small chocolate morsels are an essential ingredient in dozens of cookie recipes, including of course the classic chocolate chip cookie. Furthermore, chocolate chips are frequently used in ice cream, pastries, cakes, and even crepes, among countless other items.

In celebration of National Chocolate Chip Day on Thursday, bakeries and ice cream parlors around the nation are offering specials deals on items containing the famed candy. Furthermore, in Denver, Colorado, Woody Creek Café is offering free chocolate chip cookies in honor of National Chocolate Chip Day. Alternately, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels are giving away two chocolate chip cookies for free on May 15. Participants do not need to be guests, just drop by any DoubleTree hotel on Thursday.

On Twitter, National Chocolate Chip Day celebrations swept the nation with users sounding off about their favorite treats. Among them, the official Twitter account for Sesame Street posted a special tweet from its famous character, The Cookie Monster.

"Happy National Chocolate Chip Cookie day! #omnomnom" the blue character tweeted.

Sally added, "Happy National Chocolate Chip Day! Sorry, I'm shouting, it's like Christmas over here in my weird food holidays."

"It's National Chocolate Chip Day," Earl of Sandwich wrote. "Who wants one of our soft and chewy #chocolatechipcookies?"
