As the season ends, the race for this year's Most Valuable Player is as tight as ever.

Based on recent reports by ESPN, the top three contenders for the MVP award this season are the Thunder's Russell Westbrook, the Warriors' Steph Curry, and the Rockets' James Harden.

His Team's MVP

This consideration does not only describe the player's role on the team, but his overall worth and impact. Curry is the best player in the best team in the NBA today, but that some reports claim that even without him on the floor, Golden State can still perform well.

On the other hand, that is applicable to Harden and Westbrook, who are both carrying their respective teams on their shoulders. However, of the two superstars, Harden is doing a better job as the Rockets have already secured a spot in the Playoffs.

Even if Westbrook has a chance of getting the award as far as statistical points and votes are concerned, it would just be a lost battle if Oklahoma City fails to enter the post-season.

Is Harden this year's MVP?

Considering the points explained earlier, James Harden could become the NBA's best player this year. The shooting guard averages more than 27 points and almost 7 assists per game. He is also the player with the most trips to the foul line this season, and he has converted 8.8 out of 10.2 foul shots every game.

The absence of Dwight Howard for most of the season has been big for Houston, but Harden almost single-handedly carried his team to the playoffs.
