NBA News: Kevin Durant's Injury to Be Re-Evaluated, MVP to Miss at Least A Week

Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant had reportedly underwent a minor procedure on Sunday to replace the screw in his surgically repaired right foot.

A report from ESPN cited OKC General Manager Sam Presti telling the press that the 26-year-old reigning MVP is expected to miss at least one week. However, they are still hopeful that he'd return to continue the season.

"As we have conveyed, Kevin has experienced increased soreness in his right foot recently and as a result we initiated a process to determine the best way to manage it moving forward," he said.

"In order to alleviate that discomfort, it was determined after consultation with Dr. Robert Anderson, and after receiving a second opinion from Dr. Martin O'Malley, that because the fracture itself has continued to heal as anticipated, there was an opportunity to address irritation from the screw, and make an adjustment to a different piece of hardware within the foot to relieve the symptoms of his soreness," the team's head coach continued.

The six-time NBA All-Star player has been reportedly experiencing pain since about two weeks ago after his encounter with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Washington, D.C. native also missed this Sunday's game with the Denver Nuggets.

Ben Golliver of Sports Illustrated said that Durant's impending absence could certainly cost them their position in the Western Conference.

"With Durant, Oklahoma City has a shot to beat anyone in the league; without him, it has an excellent chance to be eliminated by any of the West's playoff teams in the first round," the sportswriter speculated.

The 2008 Rookie of the Year is averaging 25.4 points this season with 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists.
