NBA Trade Rumors 2016: Al Horford Possibly Signing With San Antonio?

Atlanta Hawks big man Al Horford is rumored to be traded to the San Antonio Spurs.

The 29-year-old Dominican professional basketball player is currently in his final season with the Hawks, where he currently earns $12 million. He will become an unrestricted free agent by the end of the 2015-2016 NBA regular season.

According to Jon Shames for Hoops Habit, Horford could be a very good fit for the San Antonio Spurs, as he could be part of the already formidable big man rotation which includes two-time Most Valuable Player awardee Tim Duncan, and five-time NBA All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge.

"Adding the Hawks' forward would allow Duncan to rest more during the regular season, and of course, bring in a scoring punch that would make San Antonio's frontcourt nothing short of dominant," an excerpt of Shames' report reads.

Shames' report, however, did also note that there might be an issue with Horford's possible signing as far as salary caps are concerned. He noted that it would not be advisable for the Spurs too "cough up too many assets for Horford," as they already spend a huge chunk of money on their current players.

For his part, Horford has been making improvements in his game, knowing that he will be back in the open market sooner than later. In another report by Marc Spears for Yahoo! Sports, Horford says he is expanding his game by improving his outside shooting in particular.

Horford was a first round, third overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2007 NBA Draft. Throughout his career, he has made three NBA All-Star appearances, in 2010, 2011, and 2015. He also made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2008.

For the current season, he has played in a total of 51 games and is averaging 15 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 3.0 assists, through 31.3 minutes of playing time per game.
