NBA Trade Rumors 2016: Is Carmelo Anthony Really Going to Be Traded?

For NBA fans, the month of February is one of the most exciting parts of the season simply because teams have a lot of potential to make major changes in their respective lineups right before the trade deadline. While trades involving role players and prospects are a common thing, the one that makes the most noise is when a superstar is rumored to be on the move. This is what's happening right now with New York Knicks superstar forward Carmelo Anthony.

The trade deadline is less than a week away, and rumors are spreading fast as wildfire, though less than half of them come true or materialize. According to a report from Frank Isola of New York Daily News, there are preliminary talks being held by three teams — the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, and New York Knicks swapping big names, including Kevin Love and Carmelo Anthony. The said discussions were reportedly centered on Anthony playing for Cleveland.

But there are two obvious reasons why this trade rumor may never come out to see the light of day. For one, Anthony has a no-trade clause in his contract, which means that he only can be traded if he waives that right. But the report said that Anthony has no plans of waiving that no-trade clause.

It should be pretty interesting to think about the prospect of the nine-time All-Star playing alongside another superstar in LeBron James in Cleveland. Well, it shouldn't be surprising if NBA fans aren't sold by the idea considering that those two have a lot of similarities on how they play the game. If ever the Knicks are willing to deal with the Cavs, perhaps the only way to do that is offer the latter something that's highly valuable.

The next reason is because the Knicks won't really get something valuable in return. Yes, the Cavs can offer Kevin Love for more frontcourt offense, but even the former Minnesota Timberwolves star won't be good enough to replace Anthony and his ever-improving value in New York.
