NBA Trade Rumors for 2016-17 Season: Brooklyn Nets to Trade Center Brook Lopez? Hyped 'Brook-Lin' Tandem with Jeremy Lin May Never Happen

Brook Lopez stayed with the Brooklyn Nets through thick and thin since he was drafted in 2008. With the ongoing rebuild in the team and entry of new star player Jeremy Lin, rumors are widespread that the long-term partnership will end into an ugly breakup.

Trade Rumors

Rumors about Lopez's departure from the Nets started after Michael Pina of Real GM wrote that the franchise should trade the star center. He said that Lopez is in his prime at 28 years old but he is quite not suitable to the current rebuild of the Nets whose roster is filled with young players.

Pina looked into the trade market of Lopez and suggested that among the ideal trades for Lopez is Milwaukee Bucks center Greg Monroe. However, he added that the haul will defeat the purpose of trading because Lopez is a reasonably good player while Monroe is a shorter and worse version of the Nets star player.

Pina's article spawned reports that the Nets are waiving Lopez. According to the Inquisitr, the Bucks are already negotiating with the Nets for the possible acquisition of Lopez in exchange of Monroe.

Illogical

The rumors are quite far from becoming a reality. As Pina specified on his article, Lopez's rightful trade partner in the market is still inexistent.

Moreover, Tj Porreca of Nothin But Nets commented that trading Lopez will depend on general manager Sean Marks and it is still vastly unknown if the franchise is indeed interested of doing so. He agreed with Pina that it is illogical to waive Lopez at present because he currently has no equitable partner in the trade market.

On the other hand, Brian Fleurantin of Nets Daily stated that throwing Lopez into the trade talks just because of the Nets' rebuild is maligning. He opined that the lack of "modern" big man in a team does not necessarily mean that the current one is already obsolete.

The 'Brook-Lin' Tandem

The lack of possible trade partner for Lopez means that the rumors are not true. This will also mean that the hyped tandem of Lopez and Lin in the 2016-17 NBA season will push through.

Per Sandy Mui of Nets Daily, the tandem of the center and point guard is poised to give birth to a new "Brook-Lin" era. She said that the duo will do well next season because of their impressive records in the past and it is only a matter of figuring out how they could work well together as partners.

ESPN reported that the Nets already started selling "BROOKLIN" and "BROOK-Linsanity" t-shirts ahead of the 2016-17 NBA season. Items can be purchased at their online store.
