NBA Trade Rumors: Would Dealing Center Tyson Chandler Be a Good Move for the Phoenix Suns?

Chandler still has two years remaining on his current contract

The Phoenix Suns are in the midst of a rebuilding effort, and thus far, they have managed to acquire some intriguing young stars who could lead the next great iteration of the team.

Players like shooting guard Devin Booker, forward Josh Jackson and 2016 draftees Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss make up the team's young core. On top of that, the Suns can still add yet another talented youngster to their core next summer via the draft since they are widely expected to snag one of the top picks.

It is clear that the Suns are better equipped to compete in the years ahead instead of this season, which is why they are also seen as one of the franchises who could be an active seller in the trade market.

The latest rumors are hinting at that as well.

In a recent article, ESPN senior writer Zach Lowe passed along some information from sources who shared that the Suns have looked into the possibility of trading center Tyson Chandler.

It should come as no surprise that the Suns have gauged the trade market for Chandler since he is a veteran who is likely not going to be a part of the team when it is ready to compete.

Things are not quite that simple, however.

While the Suns do have some interesting big man prospects on the roster such as the aforementioned Bender and Chriss and even Alex Len, at this point in time, Chandler is still better than all of them. The Suns are not going to win many games with or without Chandler, but at the very least, having the veteran center on the roster could help the team stay competitive, which is crucial for such a young squad.

Furthermore, Chandler can also be a positive contributor just by imparting some of his knowledge to his younger teammates who are still figuring out how to make it in the NBA.

On the other hand, if the Suns can secure a late first-round pick or even a second-rounder for Chandler, it would be hard to imagine them turning such a deal down.

If the Suns can somehow acquire a good pick for Chandler, they will likely then sign off on the deal, but they certainly do not have to make that move.

Chandler's a good veteran to have on any team, and he can help the Suns out regardless of whether he stays with the club or is traded eventually.
