'NCIS' Season 12 Spoilers: Recap for Episode 'Cabin Fever'

Last Tuesday's episode of "NCIS" sees Gibbs withdraw from an investigation to support his friend Fornell, whose life is in shambles after the tragic death of Diane in the hands of Mishnev.

"Cabin Fever" starts with two police officers following a car weaving crazily through traffic, and they find a drunk Fornell and an open bottle of bourbon. Fornell calls Gibbs to bail him out. Gibbs does so, and as he hands Fornell his car keys he gets a call. Gibbs meets up with Vance who tells him that an aircraft carrier carrying dignitaries from international agencies suffered a fire. The plane was supposed to take the passengers to a summit on global terror.

The team investigates the plane and Gibbs thinks that the incident has Mishnev written all over it. Gibbs is on edge and yells at McGee to get the grenade fragments to Abby. DiNozzo tells Gibbs that maybe he's too close to the case.

Gibbs gets a call and it's from Emily, Fornell's daughter. They meet up, and she tells Gibbs that her father has been drinking too much. While she too is dealing with the loss of her mother, she has to worry about her dad at the same time. She asks Gibbs to help her with her father.

Later at NCIS headquarters, Gibbs tells Vance that he will sit out from the case but reminds her that they can reach him anytime on his phone. Gibbs takes Fornell to a hunting cabin, and the two share a drink as they grieve for Diane and share memories of her.

Meanwhile, Vance and the team find out that Mishnev and Ari, Ziva's half-brother, were half- brothers, since both men had a Palestinian mother who was a doctor.

At the cabin, Mishnev creeps up to the cabin and finds Fornell there. Gibbs sneaks up behind Mishnev and hits him over the head. When Mishnev regains consciousness, he finds himself in the glare of headlights. Fornell takes aim and shoots Mishnev. Gibbs takes the gun from Fornell and checks to make sure that Mishnev is really dead.

At NCIS, Emily is reunited with Fornell, and Vance asks Gibbs if there's anything he would like to report on Mishnev's death. Gibbs says there isn't anything to say.

"NCIS" airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
