'Need for Speed' Reboot Coming This Fall, Game to Be Launched at E3

Ghost Games, a subsidiary of game developer Electronic Arts, recently announced that a new "Need for Speed" game will be launched at the E3 2015 and will be released this coming fall. The new game is called a "full reboot" of the racing game series, and will be available for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and PC.

Ghost Games also shared several teaser images and a teaser trailer the past few days, hinting at what may be in store for players, but as it turned out, Ghost Games did not share much with regards to the game's details. According to a report in Games Radar, the teaser trailer featured fast cars in a street race and in an apparent chase scene with a few police cars.

The accompanying press release described the game as "a full reboot" and that the game "delivers on what the fans want, and what Need for Speed stands for - deep customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative that pulls you through the game."

The game's development, which has taken longer than expected, is said to be based on feedback and research from the "car culture community" of Electronic Arts, called SpeedHunters. EA adds that, "Need for Speed will deliver an experience that's grounded in authentic car culture by diving into the rich world of past, present and emergent trends of the urban car scene."

According to a report in Game Spot, the game is said to be inspired the Underground series, and is yet untitled. It will be an "open-world, day-to-night racer featuring 'deep customization' car culture." The "immersive narrative" that Ghost Games referred to in the press release has to do with the game's emphasis on narrative.

In the report, Ghost Game's general manager Marc Nilsson said that the new game will place a "major emphasis on narrative," details of which will be revealed later.

Nilsson said, "We are taking a very innovative approach to how we tell a story… I think a missing piece from the last games we had has been narrative. I think we can deliver a better game to our fans if we connect to them emotionally through story."

Another feature that the new game will have, according to Nilsson, will be its online mode which he says will "advance the seamless online mode from Rivals, AllDrive, offering players a range of new tools to help them start playing with friends and groups."

Details of the new "Need for Speed" game will be revealed during EA's briefing at the E3 2015 on June 15.
