Netflix Issues a 'Stranger Things'-Themed Cease-and-Desist Letter to Unauthorized Chicago Bar
There is no doubt, the popularity of "Stranger Things" has reached astronomical levels, to the point that establishments have sprouted and used the show as inspiration. Though it may seem cool, Netflix sent a resounding but hilarious reminder that things should still be done within the boundaries of the law.
According to a Polygon report, the streaming giant and producers of the hit series sent a cease-and-desist letter to a Chicago bar that converted its event space into a pop-up based on "Stranger Things." The letter, however, was not just the typical formal one, as it sent the message loud and clear but with loads of references from the show.
"My walkie talkie is busted so I had to write this note instead," opened the letter that was first published by DNAInfo. "I heard you launched a Stranger Things pop-up bar at your Logan Square location. Look, I don't want you to think I'm a total wastoid, and I love how much you guys love the show (Just wait until you see Season 2!)," the letter continued.

Netflix reminded the owner that they did not agree to anything in relation to the pop-up bar. The company also gave out directives as to how the bar should respond to the order.
"We're not going to go full Dr. Brenner on you, but we ask that you please (1) not extend the pop-up beyond its 6 week run ending in September, and (2) reach out to us for permission if you plan to do something like this again," the letter went on to say.
In addition, Netflix closed out the letter by reminding the bar owner that "the demogorgon is not always as forgiving."
Meanwhile, "Stranger Things" failed to a single award in the recently-concluded 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards. A report from Independent said that the Netflix original series received five nominations, including Best Drama, Best Supporting Actress for Millie Bobby Brown, and Best Supporting Actor for David Harbour.
"Stranger Things" returns for a second season on Oct. 27 on Netflix.
