Netflix Releases New App for Kindle Fire and Nook - Not for iPad

A new Netflix app for the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet has been announced. But the updated app will not be available for Apple’s iPad until a few more weeks.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet both got the update for Netflix’s app, which features a new interface that displays twice as many movies and TV shows as before. It also displays recently watched movies and TV shows as thumbnail video stills rather than buttons.

According to PCWorld, making an Android mobile app for tablets before an iPad app is a rarity. Many popular apps which are available on the iPad tablet, such as Facebook, Twitter and Pandora, still have not been optimized for Android tablets, according to the tech website.

Netflix said the iPad version of the updated Netflix app will arrive “in the coming weeks.”

"It's nothing more than a timing issue," Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey wrote in an email. He explained that the timing of the updated app happens to coincide with the new tablets’ release and that there was no favoritism involved.

"Netflix is agnostic on platforms -– no preferences or priorities," he wrote.

The new app is available for download for Android devices now.
