Netflix's August 2016 New Releases Include The Little Prince, Beat Bugs, Project Mc2 and Others

A new Netflix series, The Get Down, is said to be the show to watch out for this August.

Summer fun will continue in August for all Netflix subscribers as the streaming giant bares its releases for the coming month. In July, Netflix treated its subscribers with great additions like the Jurassic Park movie series and the Marco Polo new season.

The August schedule of Netflix is filled mostly with premieres and it is kid friendly since most kids are still on their summer break. However, as in the past, Netflix is expected to announce more titles to be released for next month.

Kicking off the month is the Beatles singalong show Beat Bugs. It features covers of Beatles songs coming from, among others, Sia, Pink and Eddie Vedder. The next to be premiered is the classic The Little Prince. Who is not in love with this famous children's book? Apparently, Netflix knows this thus, it has promised an authentic film adaptation. This early, the Netflix movie is being touted as among the best animated movies of 2016. Mackenzie Foy and Jeff Bridges star.

The show to watch out for in August, however, is The Get Down. It is said to be an authentic and grounded series about New York in the 1970's. Jaden Smith will star in 6 of the 13 episodes. The Great Gatsby director, Baz Luhrmann, directs the series about a rag tag group of teenagers in the streets of the Bronx.

Returning for its second season is Project Mc2. Its premiere season was widely received that there was no question that Netflix ordered it for not one but two seasons more. The series centers on four super smart and S.T.E.A.M.(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) skilled girls. Season 2 will drop on August 12 and Season 3 will premiere in the fall according to Netflix.

Another famous book adaptation series dropping in some Netflix regions is Bottersnikes & Gumbles although it was already released in Australian TV in December last year. The streaming giant secured the rights to the first and future seasons.

Rounding off Netflix's August releases is the brand new comedy movie, XOXO. It has a pretty impressive cast with Sarah Hyland of the hit show Modern Family starring. Other stars in the cast include Ryan Hansen (2 Broke Girls), Ione Skye (Say Anything) and Graham Philips (The Good Wife). The movie centers around a musical festival called XOXO and the lives of six strangers that collide in it.
