There's a lot going on all over the new Corvette, Ireson writes, and fortunately, most of it works.The new Corvette Stingray has finally arrived, and immediate reports are that the seventh generation 2014 Chevrolet Corvette is living up to its high expectations.
The new C7 has managed to maintain a lot of its traditional style and look, but at the same time update itself to a modern version that should please Corvette lovers.
Some of the changes mean that the round tail lights have been dropped, and the hood is vented and finned. However, the style is still undoubtedly faithful to the last generation C6 Corvette, and at the same time completely refreshed and different.
The build-quality of the materials in the car are also vastly improved from the C6, and the C7 has leather-wrapped surfaces, as well as high quality plastics throughout.
The driver's view has also been upgraded and boasts an advanced instrument cluster, featuring various improvements, leaving Corvette lovers in no doubt that this is a new generation model that wants to take a big step into the modern era.
This Corvette Stingray launch model also boasts a 6.2 liter LT1 v-8 engine, which boasts 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, meaning even the standard version will be super fast.
Speed-wise, this C7 can also move from zero to 60 in less than four seconds, and get to more than 1 g in cornering grip with its Z51 Performance Package.
For the greener ones among us, this C7 is also easily the most fuel efficient Corvette ever made, thanks in a large part to its seven-speed manual transmission - something we've seen before in the latest Porsche 911. It also has a cylinder deactivation technology added, and a paddle shifted six speed automatic is also available. The C7 exceeds the EPA-estimated 26 mpg of the current model.
