New England Patriots Rookie Linebacker Harvey Langi Suffers Serious Injuries in Car Accident

New England Patriots Rookie linebacker Harvey Langi was involved in a car crash on Friday night at Foxborough, Massachusetts.

NESN's Doug Kyed was one of the first to report that Langi and his wife have suffered serious injuries when the car they were in was rear-ended by a vehicle traveling at high speed. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening.

According to NBC Boston, a third vehicle was involved in the collision and Langi's car was sandwiched between this vehicle and the car that crashed into them. Langi's father-in-law, Rick Wahlin, told Deseret News' Dick Harmon that emergency personnel had to use the "Jaws of Life" to remove Langi and his wife from the wreckage.

"They are hurt but they are alive and that's a blessing we are grateful for," Wahlin said. "They are torn up but very lucky to be alive," he added.

Wahlin also revealed that Langi is being treated for neck and head injuries, while his wife suffered broken ribs and fractures to both hips. She was also evaluated for possible internal bleeding.

Fortunately, the couple is already out of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Patriots have also released a statement following the accident.

"We are aware of the traffic accident involving Harvey Langi and a passenger last night in Foxborough. The two were stopped at a traffic light when they were rear ended by another vehicle. They were both transported to a local hospital with injuries and are receiving medical attention. Our thoughts are with Harvey, the Langi family and those who sustained injuries in last night's accident," the Patriots said in the statement.

As expected, he's going to have to miss the Patriots' game against the New York Jets this Sunday.

Langi is an undrafted rookie out of Brigham Young University and he has only appeared in one game this season.
