'New Girl' Season 5 News, Cast, Spoilers: 2 Main Cast Absent and 2 Guest Stars Coming In

As "New Girl" returns for season 5, it seems a lot of changes will be happening to the show, and all these many changes have been received by fans with mixed reactions. With this, the writers are definitely in for a challenge as the adjustments in the main cast will bring a bigger impact on its fifth year.

According to Movie Pilot, the characters that fans shouldn't expect to see immiediately will be none other than show lead Zoey Deschanel. Deschanel is currently on maternity leave and her absence will be filled in temporarily in the show. With the character that the show has revolved around gone, it truly has become tough on fans, and the replacement that was cast temporarily made it even more tough on fans who are seemingly crying out a boycott. Megan Fox is apparently going to take Deschanel's place in the meantime as Reagen whose character description is a "straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep." She will enter the scene as someone who will rent Jessica's room and moving in with Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Nick (Jake Johnston), and Winston (Lamorne Morris).

Notably, Coach is not in the list as Damon Wayans Jr. no longer renewed his contract with the show. Executive producer Liz Meriweather shared more about Wayans' exit, "We love Damon and are so lucky to have had him return for the past season-and-a-half. We are working on crafting an exit for him that will leave the door open for many returns, especially since Coach is our resolution to the upcoming 'Who's Jess' Baby Daddy?' storyline." Wayans' return was definitely one of the good moments of the show and fans have been disheartened to know that he will no longer be part of season 5.

A new guest character added is Peter Gallagher. Gallagher will be playing Schmidt's father. It will be quite a reunion as Max Greenfield, who plays Schimdt, has actually portrayed a younger Sandy Cohen, Peter Gallagher's character in the popular TV show "The O.C."
